Qantas announced on November 2 that it has joined the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group (SAFUG), which is working towards the development of sustainable aviation fuel.
“Through the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group we are joining other industry partners to work together to lessen the environmental impact of aviation,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.

SAFUG is pursuing the development of sustainable aviation fuel which performs as well or better than traditional kerosene based fuel, minimises biodiversity impacts and provides socioeconomic value for the communities where fuel feedstocks are grown. Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific and Virgin Blue are also members of the SAFUG.
