Boeing announced on December 22 that it has acquired Alenia North America’s 50 per cent stake in Charleston, South Carolina, based 787 supplier Global Aeronautica.
The acquisition will see Global Aeronautica, which completes subassembly on the centre sections of the 787 before they enter final assembly, become a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing Charleston. Boeing also recently chose the Charleston site for a second 787 final assembly line and delivery centre.

Global Aeronautica was formed in 2004 as a joint venture between Alenia North America and Vought Aircraft Industries. In March 2008 Boeing purchased Vought’s interest in Global Aeronautica, making the company a 50/50 joint venture between Alenia North America and Boeing.
