The second Boeing 787, ZA002, made its first flight on December 22, taking off from Paine Field, Everett, at 9.09am local time and landing at Boeing Field, Seattle, just over two hours later at 11.10am.
Captain Randy Neville was in command for the flight, with 787 chief pilot Captain Mike Carriker in the right hand seat. Their flight took ZA002, which is registered N787EX and painted in the colours of 787 launch customer ANA, to an altitude of 13,000ft and a speed of 200kt.

ZA002 is the second of six 787s to be used for the type’s flight test and certification program, and its flight follows the 787’s maiden flight by ZA001 a week earlier on December 15.
“We are delighted that the second Dreamliner is in the livery of our launch customer, ANA,” said Scott Fancher, VP and general manager of the 787 program. “We are honoured by the airline’s support and look forward to delivering ANA the first production airplane next year.”
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 powered ZA002 was originally planned to be delivered to ANA, but will be re-allocated to another airline customer in due course. ANA’s first 787 is due to be the seventh 787 built, ZA100.
“We would like to convey our sincere congratulations to the Boeing team for its achievement of this milestone, and we look forward to the delivery into our fleet next year,” said Shinichiro Ito, president and CEO of ANA.
