New Zealand company Spider Tracks has announced that the Australian National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) has approved its flight tracking system for aerial firefighting operators to meet its requirements.
Spider Tracks Limited Director Bruce Bartley says the NAFC’s approach allows operators to choose the system that is right for them. “We have many customers that are contracted to provide firefighting services in Australia. This decision means that our clients will be able to benefit from the spidertracks’ superior tracking and location aware safety services, and the data that is collected, while meeting their flight following requirement for NAFC.”

Bartley added that US and Canadian firefighting operators have also been using Spidertracks to provide flight following systems, as per requirements in those countries.
NAFC has been undertaking an initiative to standardise aircraft tracking equipment nationally, with the aim of increasing the interoperability of different aerial firefighting operators as well as better collaboration with ground assets during major firefighting operations.
