German leisure carrier Air Berlin says that it has cut its order for Boeing 787s from 25 to 15 and halved the number of options to five.
“With a partnership spirit we have mutually agreed with Boeing to adjust the Air Berlin order book to meet Air Berlin’s operational requirements and the market conditions,” said Air Berlin CFO Ulf Hüttmeyer in a press release.

At list prices, the cancellation is worth approximately US$1.7bn (A$1.85bn), and will now see Air Berlin’s first aircraft delivered in November 2015. Air Berlin has also pushed back delivery of nine 737-800s originally due for delivery over this and next year to 2015.
The adjustment reduces Boeing’s 787 order backlog to 866 from 57 customers.
