According to statistics released by the Airports Council International, passenger and freight traffic rebounded strongly during January.
ACI says that total passenger traffic for the month was up by 5.4 per cent. This was aided by strong growth in international passenger numbers, which increased by 5.8 per cent, driven by double digit increases in the Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East regions. Domestic passenger traffic increased by 5.2 per cent as travel increased strongly in Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America.

International freight traffic leapt during the month by33.7 per cent, due to major rebounds in the Asia Pacific and Middle East markets which has been attributed to stabilising world production markets as the economy recovers. Domestic air freight increased by 10.6 per cent, resulting overall air freight tonnage growth of 24.7 per cent.
