Turbomeca Australasia officially opened its new support facility at Bankstown Airport during a ceremony on March 12.

The new 2500 square metre facility comprises workshops, a repair hall for MTR390 and RTM322 engines as used on the Army’s ARH Tiger and MRH 90 helicopters respectively, and an RTM322 engine production line.

“Our new Killara building at Turbomeca Australasia is part of a global expansion of resources occurring within Turbomeca to meet customer demand,” said Pierre Fabre, chairman and CEO of Turbomeca. “The recent signature with Rolls-Royce Turbomeca and Australian Aerospace to provide through-life support (TLS) for the Australian Army’s new fleet of MRH90 Helicopters has accelerated Turbomeca Australasia’s growth in manpower and assets.”

The new facility is also the first qualified repair centre approved for MTR390-2C in the world, and will provide deeper maintenance services for Army’s Tiger engines. The facility also supports the Microturbo APU and air turbine starter on the RAAF’s Hawk 127s, and will soon start supporting the Sapphire 100 APU on the MRH 90.

“Turbomeca now employs 130 people at Bankstown airport where it is the only company in Australasia assembling new helicopter engines,” NSW Minister for State and Regional Development Ian Macdonald said.
