• The UK Department of Trade and Industry said on March 13 it will offer aid in the form of a £530 million repayable loan to BAE Systems to assist in the development of the Airbus A3XX. Airbus has estimated development costs of the A3XX at about US$12 billion. Wings for the new aircraft will be developed and built by BAE Systems at facilities at Broughton, North Wales, and Bristol.
• On March 29 Delta Connections Inc placed the largest single order for a regional aircraft, a US$2. 2 billion contract for 94 Bombardier CRJ200s and CRJ700s regional jet aircraft plus a further 406 optional delivery positions. The firm orders comprise 25 70-seat CRJ700s and 69 CRJ100s and 200s in 40,44 and 50-seat configurations for operation by Delta subsidiaries Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Comair.
