AirAsia X has started reconfiguring its fleet of Airbus A330-300s and A340-300s with new seating in both its premium and economy cabins.
Under the reconfiguration, the low cost carrier is retrofitting flatbed seats to its premium cabin, featuring a 152cm (60in) pitch, width of 51cm and a full 196cm length when fully reclined. The seats feature universal power sockets, adjustable headrests and built-in personal utilities such as tray table, drink holder, reading light and privacy screen. Premium passengers will also enjoy complementary meals, priority boarding and check-in, baggage allowance and a comfort kit.

“We concede that the old seats were neither suitable nor comfortable for long haul flights. But true to AirAsia tradition, we change and adapt,” said AirAsia X’s CEO Azran Osman-Rani.
In addition, the carrier was revamped its economy seats, which now feature a 31in (79cm) pitch, adjustable headrest and can be reclined, rather than the fixed shell seats currently used by the carrier.
The changes will reduce the number of premium seats on its A330s from 28 to 12, although economy seats increase to 365, while the A340s will feature 18 flatbed seats and 309 in economy. The full refurbishment is expected to be completed by June this year.
