Mount Isa leads passenger growth

written by australianaviation.com.au | April 27, 2010

Mount Isa came in ahead of Gold Coast and Townsville airports for the highest rate of growth during March, according to data released by the three airports’ parent company Queensland Airports Limited (QAL).

The mining town airport saw a 19 per cent growth in passenger numbers compared to the same month in 2009, which QAL said was proof that the airport was recovering well from the affects of the global financial crisis. Townsville recorded a seven per cent increase in passenger traffic, while the Gold Coast saw a rise of 15.6 per cent, which was driven in large part by growing international traffic, which was up by one-third.

“We are pleased to see a growth in passenger numbers across the QAL Group during March. The figures show consumer and business confidence continues to grow with positive domestic growth across all three airports,” said QAL managing director Dennis Chant.
