Piper Aircraft delivered the first PiperSport light sport aircraft to a customer on April 13 at the Sun ‘n Fun event in Lakeland, Florida.

“The PiperSport is an amazing entry level aircraft that will bring new customers to Piper,” said Piper president and CEO Kevin J Gould.  “It fits perfectly into our overall mission of delivering the very best airplanes.  It will lead the way for customers to step up into more sophisticated and higher performance aircraft within our line over time.”

Manufactured by Czech Sport Aircraft (which also sells the aircraft as the SportCruiser), the all metal LSA is powered by a 100hp (75kW) Rotax 912 engine, and sells in three models from US$120,000 featuring different levels of avionics and interior trim. Piper launched the aircraft on January 21 at the Sebring US Sport Aviation Expo.
