Qantas held a special ceremony for the Socceroos at its Melbourne jetbase before the team and a number of supporters departed on a special flight to Johannesburg ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup which commences in June.

The team departed from Melbourne on May 26 in Qantas 747-400 VH-OJS for the 13 and a half hour flight direct to Johannesburg. “We were extremely excited to roll out the red carpet for our Qantas Socceroos today. We have been working towards this day since we unveiled the Qantas Socceroos Boeing 747 in October last year,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
