Qantas has announced that it will increase the frequency of its Sydney-Johannesburg services to daily from September 21.
The new Tuesday service will bring to daily the number of services between Sydney and Johannesburg, and complements South African Airways’s daily services from Johannesburg to Perth, which Qantas codeshares on.

SAA will add its code to the new service, effectively giving it 14 flights per week between South Africa and Australia. “We are seeing strong interest in Africa as a business, recreational and VFR destination and the additional flight will help address that demand,” said the airline’s Head of Australasia, Thevan Krishna.
SAA and Qantas have dominated traffic between Australia and South Africa for a number of years as the only direct carriers between the two countries, although the start of twice weekly services from Melbourne to Johannesburg by V Australia in March this year has added some competition to the route.
