QantasLink has launched sales for its flights between Cairns and Port Moresby, with the first service to take off on July 1.

“QantasLink’s expansion into Papua New Guinea heralds the first arrival of a Qantas aircraft into the market since 2002. This expansion has been made possible by an investment of over $600 million since 2006 in a new fleet of 21 Q400 aircraft,” said QantasLink executive manager Narendra Kumar.

“We are delighted to be able to provide business travellers in particular with significantly improved facilities and comfort when travelling between Cairns and Port Moresby at jet-like speed on the Q400.”

Qantas will operate 12 services per week, offering a total of 1776 seats per week on the route, and is offering launch fares from $349 return between the two cities to celebrate the commercial launch.

Airlines PNG and Air Niugini also fly between Cairns and Port Moresby, with traffic expected to grow significantly due to the PNG LNG project which has begun construction recently.
