Melbourne Airport has announced that Air India will fly to Melbourne from Delhi from November 1 this year.
The Indian flag carrier will operate daily services with a Boeing 777-300ER. Air India will also establish its regional headquarters in Melbourne.

“The Indian market is consistently growing, in fact last year, there was a 34 per cent increase in visitors from India to Victoria, and Air India, by choosing Melbourne as their base, have seized this market opportunity,” said Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff. “It is clear that Melbourne and the offerings of greater Victoria are instrumental to the growth of the education, leisure and business markets.”
The Air India announcement is the latest victory for ‘Team Melbourne’, which is an initiative headed by the Victorian government and Melbourne Airport aimed at attracting new international airline services.
