written by australianaviation.com.au | June 18, 2010
Tiger Airways continues to expand.

Tiger Airways recommenced services to Darwin on June 18, with the carrier starting daily services from Melbourne for the peak tourist season.

“The return of Darwin to our network is something we have been working on closely with Darwin Airport and Tourism NT,” said Tiger’s managing director Crawford Rix. “With six weekly flights commencing from this Friday, Tiger Airways will provide a significant boost for inbound tourism for the Territory, providing more than 110,000 visitor seats through Darwin Airport annually.”

The return of flights to Darwin also coincides with Tiger carrying its four millionth passenger. The lucky passenger, who will be on board the return Darwin-Melbourne flight, will be presented with a $400 voucher for travel on Tiger by Rix at Darwin Airport.

Tiger first served Darwin in 2005 from Singapore, and later added flights from Melbourne in 2007 when it commenced domestic Australia services. It later withdrew all flights from Darwin in October 2008, citing high airport costs.
