The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAFI) is investigating how a V Australia Boeing 777 and an Air New Zealand 767 ended up in close proximity in airspace near Nadi.
According to The Fiji Times, the incident happened on May 7 at approximately 1600hrs local time, with both aircraft in controlled airspace approximately 100nm from Nadi. Some reports claim that the Air New Zealand aircraft passed the Los Angeles bound V Australia 777’s nose by 2nm with a vertical clearance of 800ft, causing a TCAS alert in both aircraft, although Air New Zealand says that the aircraft were separated by 10nm and had contact with each other at the time of the incident.

CAAFI has not yet commented on the investigation of the incident or released any details. CASA and the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority are also understood to be involved in the investigation.
