Indonesian carrier Batavia Air is planning to launch flights from Denpasar to Perth, while it is also looking to fly to Melbourne and Sydney.
Batavia has not yet announced a start date for the services, but it is expected to soon launch daily flights between Perth and Denpasar utilising Airbus A319s, which would make it the sixth airline to fly the route. Batavia is also looking to operate its A330-200s to Sydney and Melbourne, and plans to offer a “value added” style of service aimed at “young adults and families”.

The announcement by Batavia comes after Indonesian and Australian authorities concluded negotiations to add a further 4000 seats of available capacity from gateway cities (defined as Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, including Avalon) for operators from both countries. Fellow Indonesian carrier Lion Air has also recently announced its intentions to fly between Denpasar and ports in Australia, while existing Australian carriers Pacific Blue, Jetstar and Strategic Airlines may apply for additional capacity.
Batavia Air started operating in 2002 and currently operates a fleet of A320s/A319s, 737s and recently added three A330-200s. It flies within Indonesia and internationally to Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou, Singapore and Jeddah.
