Pratt & Whitney will shortly start testing on the first PW1524G engine, marking a key milestone for the engine that will power the Bombardier CSeries.
Pratt held a ‘Last Bolt’ ceremony at its Middletown, Connecticut production facility for the engine on August 25 before it was shipped off to its West Palm Beach, Florida facility to begin testing as part of its validation and certification program. A total of eight engines will be run over the next two years with certification due in 2012, ahead of the first delivery of a CSeries in 2013.

“Completion of the first PW1524G engine for testing is an important milestone for the CSeries aircraft program,” Benjamin Boehm, vice president, Commercial Aircraft Programs for Bombardier, told Pratt & Whitney employees at the Last Bolt Ceremony today. “We have worked closely with Pratt & Whitney engineers over the past two years to optimise engine performance as we integrated this powerplant into our airplane design. We are very pleased with the progress of the engine program to date and that Pratt & Whitney has completed first engine assembly on time.”
