Brisbane Airport says that passenger traffic through the airport has bounced back to levels experienced prior to the global financial crisis, with August traffic up 7.8 per cent.
The increase was driven a strong growth in domestic passengers, which were up 8.4 per cent while international traffic also recorded a pleasing growth of 5.7 per cent. The airport says that an increase in passengers from North Asia and New Zealand as well as a strong growth in resident departures from Brisbane. Domestic growth was assisted by a 9.7 per cent increase in available seats compared to the same time last year.

“There is room for the outbound market to grow further, in light of the continued interstate and international migration to southeast Queensland, and the favourable exchange rates enjoyed as a result of the strong Australian dollar,” said Brisbane Airport spokesperson Rebecca McConchie.
