Terrafugia, which is developing the Transition ‘street legal airplane’, is preparing to move into a facility at Woburn, Massachusetts, from which it could commence low rate production of the car/aircraft from late 2011.

“It is exciting to be in the facility where the first Transitions will be built for our customers and to see the production prototypes under construction in that space,” said chief operating officer Anna Mracek Dietrich.

Following strong interest in the Transition since its launch at the 2010 EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh, the company has commenced building two prototype aircraft. One will be used for driving testing, while the second will focus on gaining certification as a Light Sport Aircraft. Experience in building the prototypes will also help to determine the retail price for the Transition, which is expected to be between US$200,000-$300,000 (A$ 216,398-$324,597).
