CareFlight Group Queensland has officially opened its fourth CMS Air Ambulance base, at Darwin International Airport, which will enhance the reach of its international and domestic air ambulance service.
“CMS Air Ambulance Darwin will utilise a Learjet 36. This is a permanently medically configured jet aircraft which has specialised long range flight ability,” said CareFlight’s chief medical officer Dr Allan MacKillop. “This means we’ll be able to transport sick and injured patients from all locations in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.”

CMS Air Ambulance also operates from bases at the Gold Coast, Auckland and Townsville, and has specialist critical care nurses and doctors on duty 24/7 to respond to requests for aeromedical retrieval services from private individuals and insurance companies. The surplus funds generated from the Air Ambulance service go back into supporting the RACQ CareFlight community helicopter rescue service in Queensland.
