Skywest has announced that it has received approval to operate Fokker 100 jets on its services to Ravensthorpe.

The new Ravensthorpe services will operate four times a week from November 15, initially for a period of one year under an agreement with the Shire of Ravensthorpe and First Quantum Metals, which operates a nickel mine near the Goldfields town. The flights will operate on a Perth-Esperance-Ravensthorpe-Perth routing.

“The expansion of routes to include Ravensthorpe reflects our ongoing strategy to grow our operations and enhance our position as the leading airline in Western Australia,” said Skywest chairman Jeff Chatfield. “Over the coming months we expect to announce additional jet services to new regions of the country and look forward to continuing to forge strong relationships with mining companies.”

The expansion comes as Skywest prepares for an opening up of competition on a number of routes it is currently the sole operator on from March 1 next year due to changes in WA state government policy on turboprop routes.
