Qantas will launch new four times weekly nonstop services between Australia and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) from May 16, and at the same time will drop its direct Sydney-San Francisco flights.
The new route will see Qantas operate three-class Boeing 747-400ER direct outbound flights from Sydney to DFW as QF7, returning to Sydney via Brisbane as QF8, while the airline will continue to serve San Francisco from May 14 under a codeshare arrangement.

The new flights to Dallas/Fort Worth will be codeshared with American Airlines, and the two carriers have announced plans to expand their commercial partnership.
“Alongside our entry into DFW, Qantas and American Airlines intend to deepen their existing relationship and will be seeking regulatory approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and other relevant authorities for this expanded commercial relationship,” Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said.
Qantas and American will seek to coordinate operations between Australia/New Zealand and the US, while Qantas will codeshare from Dallas/Fort Worth with American to 13 US – Albuquerque, Boise, Cleveland, Washington DC (Reagan National), El Paso, New York (LaGuardia), Kansas City, Oklahoma, Phoenix, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Tucson – and three Mexican – Cancun, Guadalajara, and Mexico City – destinations.
Once the alliance receives regulatory approval, Qantas plans to increase the Dallas/Fort Worth services to a daily frequency. The new commercial agreement will also see AAVacations, American Airlines’ tour operator, offer integrated Australia and Asia Pacific holidays packages in the US market.
Meanwhile, Qantas has also announced it will increase the frequency of its Los Angeles-New York service (QF107/108) from six times per week to daily from June.

says:Typical Qantas, lost all their sprit of adventure. Their routes seem very plain, compared with alot of other airlines. Back in time SFO was one of their prime routes, I can’t understand why they would drop it Again.
Its all money and no service these days.

Qantas is a business, answerable to shareholders. If they can’t make money on a route, they redeploy their aircraft to where they can. If you were a business owner, would you continue to incur losses on a product? I think not.

says:Hopefully now V Australia will fly Sydney to San Francisco considering capacity has just been slashed 50% with QANTAS exiting. It makes perfect sense for V Australia as they would feed traffic into Virgin America’s largest hub which is currently under going a $383 million redevelopment. Plus passengers would have far better connection facilities at San Francisco than at LAX.

says:I believe DFW is a good alternative to SFO, as it can cater for better connections to other US destinations (Using American Airlines) for both the leisure and business traveller, and will possibly be a better place in terms of time saved in connecting flights than LAX, which is pretty slow and painful at the moment, maybe they should try Atlanta, GA next?

says:I thinks it’s great, but 15.5 hours is a longtime maybe a few extra seats to economy pax will do the trick

says:Unfortunately I am booked to fly SFO to SYD in June with Qantas. I don’t know whether I am going to have to bypass SanFran in order to get home and what about all the other flights and accommodation I have already booked??
Can’t do anything about it at the moment because Qantas call centres are overloaded with people changing their flights due to flooding..

says:It is interesting that the customers themselves have not supported SFO as a point of entry into North America. To call LAX third World would be a compliment. the connections are a nightmare and the Immigration people think that their job is to make every visitor to USA feel like a criminal. I would certainly support the DFW connection to Eastern Canada (eg: Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa) if AA offer the connections with the new QF flights.
