Airbiz opens in Melbourne

written by australianaviation.com.au | February 14, 2011

Collingwood based flight operations service provider Airbiz Aviation Strategies opened a new office in Melbourne on February 11, as the company looks to capitalise on its niche market position in airport planning, design and management.

Victorian minister responsible for the Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips joined industry representatives yesterday to officially open Airbiz’s new premises in Melbourne, as the aviation consultancy firm aims to build upon its success after receiving the Small to Medium Services Award in the 2009 Governor of Victoria Export Awards. “With more than 30 specialist staff, Airbiz has recently expanded its presence in North America, adding offices in Calgary, Canada to complement those already in operation in Vancouver and Montreal. This global reach has allowed Airbiz to complete over 2,000 projects and studies in 43 countries,” Rich-Phillips said.

Airbiz’s recent projects have included simulation modelling for Vancouver Airport during the 2010 Winter Olympics, airport and terminal planning for the South Africa’s Durban Airport, and terminal and airside planning for a new terminal at Delhi Airport. Rich-Phillips said Victoria was the premier location for Australian aviation and aerospace activity, hosting “wide-ranging capabilities in the aviation and aerospace industries, including companies such as Airbiz”.

“The aviation and aerospace sectors contribute more than $600 million to the Victorian economy, generate more than $230 million in exports and in total employ more than 22,000 people across airports and aerospace facilities.

“The Victorian Government will continue to actively support the growth of the aviation and aerospace industries in both domestic and international markets.”
