Pratt & Whitney says it has successfully completed initial ground testing of the first PurePower PW1000G series engine.
The PW1524G, being developed for Bombardier’s CSeries, completed nearly 200 hours of ground tests at the company’s West Palm Beach, Florida facility, which the company says confirmed results of its 2008 geared turbofan demonstration program.

“We have already completed an unprecedented amount of testing on this first engine, including a full structural evaluation, performance, noise and emissions testing. Testing has validated overall engine operational characteristics including component design, rotor dynamics and engine fuel and lubrication systems,” Pratt & Whitney VP next generation product family Bob Saia said.
Assembly of the second and third PW1524Gs is nearing completion, with the second engine to undergo flight testing mounted on Pratt & Whitney’s 747SP testbed from mid year. PW1524G certification and CSeries first flight are scheduled for 2012.
In addition to Bombardier’s CSeries, the ‘PurePower’ geared turbofan has also been selected for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Airbus A320neo, and Irkut’s MC-21.
