(USAF)

Rolls-Royce has secured two major support contracts totalling US$246 million to service C-130 Hercules’ engines currently in operation with US and UK forces.

The engine manufacturer will provide the US Air Force (USAF) with comprehensive propulsion system services for its fleet of C-130J aircraft under a US$203 million ‘MissionCare’ contract modification, while also signing a one-year contract extension worth approximately US$43 million to support the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) C-130 fleet.

Under the US contract, aircraft that are flown by the USAF, USAF Training Command, Air National Guard, USAF Reserve and USAF Special Operations Command will be serviced by Rolls-Royce. The availability-based agreement covers the provision of logistics and program management support, engineering services, spares and technical data for the complete propulsion system, including AE 2100D3 engines and Dowty R-391 propellers. The MissionCare agreement also exercises the fifth year of an existing contract between Rolls-Royce and the USAF, originally signed in 2006.

Rolls-Royce’ UK contract was signed with Marshall Aerospace, the prime contractor for the Hercules Integrated Operational Support (HIOS) program, and provides continued support for both ‘J’ and ‘K’ aircraft variants in service with the RAF. Rolls-Royce has teamed up with Marshall Aerospace and Lockheed Martin to deliver HIOS, a program designed to improve overall availability and reduce support costs of the fleet of C-130s.
