90 Years Young

March sees the Royal Australian Air Force celebrate its 90th anniversary. From humble beginnings with WW1 surplus ‘Imperial Gift’ biplanes in 1921, to finishing WW2 as the world’s fourth largest air arm (after the defeat of Germany and Japan), to today’s “world’s best small air force”, the RAAF can rightly celebrate a remarkable history and heritage.

The 90th anniversary – to be marked at the Avalon Airshow – provides a timely occasion for all Australians to reflect on the achievements and history of our Air Force, and to acknowledge the efforts of all those who have served, and especially to remember those RAAF members who lost their lives while in uniform, whether in war or in training accidents.
