IAG signs MOU for eight A330s for Iberia

International Airlines Group (IAG) subsidiary Iberia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for eight A330-300s, which will become the airline’s first widebody twins.

IAG, which was formed in January this year after the merger of Iberia and British Airways, will select an engine for the A330s at a later date, with IAG chief executive Willie Walsh praising the aircraft’s “lower fuel consumption and commonality with Iberia’s existing long haul aircraft” as a key factor in establishing an MOU. “The A330 is an excellent aircraft, both in terms of comfort and operational performance, and it will be a welcome addition to Iberia’s fleet,” Walsh said.
