Oxford Aviation Academy (OAA) has marked the significant expansion of its airline pilot training facilities at Moorabbin Airport with the official opening of new training centres on Friday.
The new facilities include a new 1200 sqm headquarters and training centre with teaching capacity for an additional 200 students, featuring six new classrooms, student briefing rooms, self-study areas, library and support facilities (effectively doubling OAA’s ground training capacity), and an enhanced simulator training centre, equipped with a new jet simulator (approved for MPL and MCC training) and a new Cessna 172 instrument flight training simulator, meaning OAA will now be able to offer Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC), Jet Operations (JOC), and Multi-Crew Pilot’s Licence (MPL) courses.

A new Pilot Assessment and Selection Centre (PASC) has also been established to assess the skills and capabilities of both aspiring and experienced airline pilots.
The new facilities were officially opened by Victorian Minister responsible for the Aviation Industry, Gordon Rich-Philips, and Jetstar Chief Pilot, Captain Mark Rindfleish. (OAA is one of two training partners for Jetstar’s cadet pilot program.)
“Our latest investments in new training centre facilities here at Moorabbin now enable OAA to expand significantly into new growth markets, earn new customers and create further export opportunities and employment within the State of Victoria,” OAA managing director for ab initio training, Anthony Petteford, said.
OAA holds received regulatory approvals from CASA, Vietnam’s CAAV and Europe’s EASA, and expects approvals by Singapore’s CAAS and Hong Kong’s CAD by mid 2011. OAA’s Moorabbin customers include Qantas, QantasLink, Jetstar, Iraqi Airways, Gulf Aviation Academy and Vietnam Airlines.
