CAE Australia has been awarded a contract to provide aircrew training and simulator maintenance and support services for the RAAF’s incoming KC-30A tankers.
Under contract to Airbus Military, CAE has designed and built the KC-30’s full-flight and mission simulator, plus a KC-30 air refuelling officer part-task trainer and a CAE Simfinity integrated procedures trainer. These will now undergo installation and acceptance testing at Amberley in advance of the planned interim ready-for-training milestone in December.

CAE will operate the simulators under an extension of CAE’s existing Management and Support of Australian Defence Forces (ADF) Aerospace Simulators (MSAAS) contract with Defence for the management of ADF aircraft simulators. This will see CAE staff provide classroom and simulator instruction, courseware development, training device maintenance and support services and facilities management.
“The MSAAS contract has proven that it can deliver high levels of support to the Australian Defence Forces,” said Air Commodore Leigh Gordon, the DMO’s director general, Aerospace & Maritime Surveillance Systems. “The addition of training services to the contract provides an exciting and valuable addition to the services provided by CAE to the Commonwealth.”
“CAE already has the contract to provide management and support to 15 of the Defence Force’s training devices and simulators across the country,” noted Defence Materiel Minister Jason Clare. “By extending the existing contract Defence can cut overheads and operate a more economical and efficient simulator training system for ADF personnel.”
