Safety and emergency training provider Red Alert Australia’s new $4 million Emergency Training Centre, which can be used for Helicopter Underwater Emergency Training (HUET) courses, has been officially opened by Gordon Rich-Phillips, the Victorian Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Aviation.
The centre, in the Melbourne suburb of Altona, features two 11 metre long, three metre deep pools which can be used for HEUT training, where trainees are dunked in the water strapped into a mockup of a helicopter cabin, and are taught how to successfully evacuate from an overturned helicopter that has crashed into the water.

“The Red Alert Australia Emergency Training Centre provides a realistic simulator that sets a benchmark in modern safety training and conveys peace of mind to personnel who work in hostile environments such as offshore oil and gas platforms, or who regularly fly over water in helicopters,” Rich-Phillips said.
Red Alert offers HUET courses to the offshore oil and gas and wider aviation industries.
