Powered by twin Austro Engine-made AE300 turbo diesels, Hawker says the DA-42’s long range makes it an ideal fit in Australia. The aircraft is aimed at the general aviation market and has proven popular with flight schools.

“The DA42-NG is available with larger fuel tanks that have a range of 2000km with a 60 per cent power setting at 14,000ft, with a fuel burn of only 38.9 litres per hour total (for both engines),” said Tony Jones, senior vice president, Aircraft Sales and Flight Services Group. “These are incredible figures for a piston engine twin.”

European aerospace giant EADS last year displayed a Diamond DA42 powered entirely by algae derived biofuels.
