The budget carrier has had a difficult year that saw it lose $38 million in the last quarter after its Australian fleet was grounded for six weeks during July and August over safety concerns. The news has been slightly better of late, with CASA this month clearing the airline to increase its weekly flights from 22 to 32 – still well below pre-suspension numbers – and figures showing the airline dramatically improving its on-time performance.
Tiger, which began its Australia operations on November 23 2007, says it will also celebrate its 8 millionth customer on Thursday. The passenger will be met by new Tiger Airways CEO Andrew David at Melbourne Airport and presented with an $800 travel voucher.
