Air Austral has announced a decision to withdraw operations on Reunion-Sydney-Noumea and Reunion-Bangkok routes from March 2012.

The decision follows a review of the airline’s long haul operations, which cited the difficult economic climate and continued impost of rising jet fuel prices as reasons for the cessation.

The French Indian Ocean territory Reunion Island based airline said the cancellation would allow it to concentrate on flights between Reunion Island and France.

The final flight from Sydney will depart on March 20 next year, with the final Bangkok service to operate on March 26. Flights after these dates have been removed from computer reservations systems.

The airline is currently finalising details of its re-protection policy for passengers booked to travel cancelled routes beyond the March withdrawal, with information to be distributed to travel agents once confirmed.
