After an ugly 2011, Qantas hopes a supermodel can turn around its image.
The airline Thursday announced Australian model Miranda Kerr as its newest “Qantas Ambassador,” joining an embassy already staffed by John Travolta, Cathy Freeman, Mark Webber, Greg Norman, Mark Schwarzer and John Eales.

In a statement, Kerr said she was honoured by the distinction.
“I grew up with Qantas which is such an iconic Australian brand,” she said. “I travel frequently and from the moment I step onboard a Qantas flight I feel at home. I always enjoy the wonderful service, fabulous food and stylish cabins.”
Kerr was scheduled to make her debut appearance for the airline at the Qantas Spirit of Australia cocktail party in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
