Tiger Airways continues adding flights as it claws back from last year’s suspension and eyes a second base of operations.
The budget carrier this weekend announced plans to fly an additional daily return service between Melbourne-Sydney and Melbourne-Perth starting in April. That comes on the back of plans to bolster services from Tiger’s Melbourne hub to Brisbane and Gold Coast. In all, the extra flights will add 155,000 seats to the carrier’s domestic network, Tiger said.

Tiger last week announced plans to resume service from Melbourne to Cairns pending CASA approval.
CASA grounded the airline for six weeks last winter over safety concerns and capped its daily operations after allowing it to return to the air in August. That cap has gradually been loosened from 18 flights per day in the weeks following the suspension to the current limit of 38 flights.
Meanwhile, Fairfax reported that Tiger is eyeing Brisbane for a second hub as it seeks to expand beyond Melbourne and make better use of its fleet. At present, the airline only uses seven of its 10 A320 aircraft.
