On course for a tricky landing
‘There I was, upside down, over the sea, not very high, when the engine stopped. Suddenly I am in an aviation anecdote come true — and not enjoying it one little bit.
I have been flying for 47 years. I have amassed more than 21,600 hours, of which about 2,500 are in more than 200 types of piston singles. I’ve made several precautionary landings due to deteriorating weather, had a few turnbacks for technical problems and been on the receiving end of several partial engine failures. And there was one off-airport landing when the tip flew off our old Auster’s propeller.
