Japan Airlines has launched non-stop services from Tokyo to Boston using its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The first flight arrived at Boston’s Logan Airport late Sunday morning, marking the first ever regularly scheduled non-stop commercial service between the two cities. Boeing has promoted the composite built 787, which is lighter and more fuel efficient than traditional aircraft, as an economical means for airlines to launch long haul routes to mid-sized market.

Boeing says the composite built 787 gives airlines the option to open long haul routes to mid-sized markets.
The Tokyo-Boston route is the 787s first long haul assignment. Boeing has so far delivered only a handful of the aircraftamid repeated delays.
The 787 features a high-tech interior including large, electronically dimmable windows and dynamic LED lighting. Passengers on the inaugural Tokyo-Boston flight said the lights were turned to pink and purple to reflect Japan’s cherry blossom season.
