A CTC DA42.

A dire shortage of qualified flight instructors in New Zealand has led Hamilton-based CTC Aviation Training to offer aggressive recruitment and retention packages including first home payments.

Under the bonus scheme, instructors staying with CTC for three years will get a choice of several paid aviation training options or a $5000 post-tax lump payment. Instructors staying for five years will get their choice of a $15,000 payment toward their first home, $10,000 in cash or paid training.

The scheme was unveiled as CTC launched an international recruitment drive primarily targeting Australia and South Africa. The company said it hopes to hire about 25 flight instructors over the next six months.

“The shortage of flight instructors is so critical that it has gotten to the point where there is only a handful of suitably qualified instructors left in New Zealand,” CTC CEO Ian Calvert said. “We’ve had no choice but to turn our recruitment efforts off-shore and we believe the calibre of instructors available in Australia and South Africa will meet our requirements.”
