Tiger Airways will re-start services to Hobart from November 1 as the budget carrier continues to rebuild its network after last year’s grounding.
Tiger said it would launch two daily return services from its Melbourne hub to Tasmania, with flights leaving Melbourne at 7am and 6pm and returning from Hobart at 8:45am and 7:45pm. Tickets for the flights went on sale today.

The carrier said it would also launch a third daily return service during peak periods over summer.
“Tiger Airways is continuing with its Australian expansion as planned and Tasmania is an important milestone on this journey,” Tiger CEO Andrew David said during a visit to Hobart to announce the service. “Because the Melbourne to Hobart route has proven so popular with inbound and Tasmanian customers in the past we are confident that demand for this sector in the future will be strong.”
Tiger was forced to dramatically curtail its network after returning to the skies under a CASA imposed daily flight cap following a six-week grounding over safety concerns last winter, but CASA has gradually relaxed the cap this year.
Tiger plans to open a second base of operations at Sydney Airport in July and will launch services between Melbourne and Cairns next week.
