Archerfield Airport's 20-year master plan has received government approval.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has approved Archerfield Airport’s 20 year master plan.

The plan includes realignment of the airport’s grass runways and moving them from flood prone low-lying areas as well as improving the airport’s capability to provide training facilities. Those changes are expected to go ahead over the next five years.

General Manager of Archerfield Airport, Corrie Metz, said the plan also made provisions for modern facilities to cater for the anticipated future growth of aviation within South East Queensland and to provide opportunities for warehouse, logistics and manufacturing businesses to relocate their operations to the heart of Brisbane’s much sought after South West Industrial Gateway.

“In line with previous Archerfield Airport Master Plans, the 2011-31 Plan continues to make provisions for the introduction of regular passenger transport (RPT) services should the community want them in the future,” Mr Metz said.

“It is anticipated that aircraft capable of carrying up to 80 passengers may operate from the airport up to 24 times per day (12 arrivals and 12 departures). Archerfield Airport Corporation has made a commitment in the plan to consult further with the public before permitting the introduction of such services.”

Options for improvements to surrounding roads, noise issues, airport protection and potential precinct layouts have also been canvassed within the plan.
