Asia’s largest low-cost carrier – Air Asia – has ordered 36 current-model A320s and 64 A320neo jets.
The aircraft will be added to the airline’s all-A320 fleet. To date AirAsia has ordered 475 of the aircraft for use on its existing network of 70 destinations and to grow services deeper into Asia.

AirAsia’s CEO Tony Fernandes said: “We have three gold mines in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. On the other hand, Philippines and Japan have enormous potential growth. With these added aircraft, it goes in line with our strategy to further build our already extensive network through new routes and added frequencies and allow AirAsia to maintain its market leadership.”
More than 8,800 A320-family aircraft have been ordered, with 5,300 delivered to 380 customers.
