Australian business jet operators are being encouraged to harmonise safety standards.

The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) will conduct two workshops in Melbourne during March aimed at promoting and enhancing safety in business jet operations.

Montreal-headquartered IBAC will run two courses on March 13 and 14 based on the International Standard – Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) for Australian operators, which the Australian Business Aviation Association’s David Bell said is a sound investment in harmomising safe professional aircraft operations.

IBAC program director Jim Cannon, who will be conducting the workshops, said: “IS-BAO incorporates the International Standards and Recommended Practices for the Operations of Aircraft applicable to business aviation as prescribed in the ICAO Annex 6.”

The IBAC works closely with ICAO towards international standardisation and to develop an industry code of best practice.  To date in excess of 700 aircraft operating companies, six of which are based in Australia, have signed up to the IS-BAO program as a voluntary standard.

Information on the workshops is available via the Australian Business Aviation Association.
