Colac aerodrome receives $163,000 grant from Victorian government

written by australianaviation.com.au | May 6, 2013

Colac Aerodrome, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on May 5, has received $163,000 from the Victorian government’s Regional Aviation Fund.

The south-west Victorian GA airfield will use the funds to seal the gravel runway and apron areas, and widen the aircraft turning zones to provide a predictable all-weather surface for safer takeoffs and landings.

Victoria’s Minister responsible for the aviation industry, Gordon Rich-Phillips, said the funding would bring infrastructure improvements to Colac’s airfield to provide better access for aero-medical and firefighting aircraft.

“The Coalition Government established the $20 million Regional Aviation Fund to cover the cost of infrastructure upgrades at public-access country airports that communities would otherwise not have been able to afford,” Rich-Phillips said announcing the funding for Colac.

The Regional Aviation Fund has so far provided more than $5 million in grants, with more than $12 million in grant applications presently under consideration.
