Airports in the Asia-Pacific region recorded double-digit growth in August 2013. According to the latest ACI statistics, summer holiday demand boosted domestic and international traffic year-on-year growth of 10 per cent in Asia-Pacific and 18.5 per cent in the Middle East.

Year-to-date passenger traffic from January to August 2013 showed an increase of 6.5 per cent and 11.5 per cent in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East respectively comparing to same period last year.

The top five busiest airports during August were Beijing Capital, Tokyo Haneda, Dubai, Hong Kong and Jakarta.  Dubai reported traffic growth for August of +23 per cent, while Jakarta’s traffic growth of+16 per cent was largely attributable to its rapidly rising domestic market of more than 42 million passengers a year.  Other airports that recorded double-digit growth in passenger traffic included Kuala Lumpur (+28.3 per cent), Delhi (+20.1 per cent) and Mumbai (+22.4 per cent).

Air cargo traffic continues to be stagnant, with a mere 0.5 per cent year-on-year increase at Asia-Pacific airports and a 1.3 per cent increase in the Middle East. Despite the slow overall growth, some airports such as Abu Dhabi handled nearly 30 per cent more cargo than August 2012.
