Recent further studies show Wellcamp to have an immediate catchment area of 344,000 people, extending from from the Lockyer Valley west of Brisbane south to Goondiwindi, west to Miles and north to Kingaroy. The area gives the new airport the 11th largest airport catchment in Australia.

The developers – Wagners – are aiming for the first aircraft to operate from the new airport in September next year, with runway lighting due to be installed in May and certification thereafter.
