Regional Express has flagged its interest in operating several of failed Brindabella Airlines’ regulated NSW routes by announcing it is seeking to add those ports to its AOC that it currently does not have regulatory approval for.

“We do not anticipate any difficulties obtaining CASA approvals, but given the time of year, we believe we should being work sooner rather than later to be ready for the new tender for the licensed routes of Brindabella Airlines,” said Rex’s general manager of network strategy and sales, Warrick Lodge.

Rex says its seeking to add Moree and Narrabri to its AOC “in the first instance”, and “possibly Cooma in time for winter”, and notes that it already has CASA approval to operate RPT services to Orange, Newcastle, Cobar and Mudgee.

Said Lodge: “I am planning urgent consultations with the affected local councils over the next two weeks with the intention of drawing up partnership arrangements so that these communities can have for the first time, what many parts of regional Australia have enjoyed over the past decade – a stable, sustainable and high quality air service. Rex has the best On-Time Performance, lowest cancellation rates and best customer appeal in Australia and has long been recognised as the best regional airline in the world.”

Has any operator shown any interest in Brindabella’s Canberra-Newcastle route, or their former CBR-Albury route? What is the likelihood of Rex (or another regional airline) connecting Canberra to the regions? Thought so! Maybe when Kingsford Smith becomes so crowded and inefficient that they have to circle for hours to get the next landing slot and sit on the runway for hours waiting for clearance.
