Regional Express has called for expressions of interest from regional NSW centres for regular public transport (RPT) air services to and from Sydney.

The call comes in the wake of the collapse of Brindabella Airlines late last year and Rex subsequently recruiting 14 of Brindabella’s pilots. The airline says it has a “window of opportunity” to offer new services to regional centres within a 600km radius of Sydney.

“Rex would allocate to the successful city peak morning and evening slots at Sydney airport which would allow professionals to conduct a full day of business in Sydney and return home the same day,” airline COO Garry Filmer said in a statement. “This new route would have three return services on weekdays.”

“This is a very rare opportunity for regional NSW to have a good new air service as there are no more available slots in the peak hours at Sydney airport,” Filmer added. ”I invite local councils that are interested to write to us immediately as a decision has to be made within three weeks. Only cities that can sustain above 30,000 annual passengers will be considered. We hope to commence the new operations in March or April subject to regulatory approvals.”

The airline says expressions of interest close on January 31.

Give cooma a go could be triangled via Merimbula, they will need an air service during winter, I think REX should look at getting a few new modern aircraft, the Sabb’s won’t last for ever, possibly a few Dash 8 300’s

Hope they don’t make the price of flight too high!
