Boeing says it has delivered two 787-8 Boeing Business Jets (BBJs) in the past week.

The deliveries, to undisclosed customers but believed to include Michael Dell from Dell Computers, are the second and third 787 BBJs out of 13 currently on order through to 2018.

The BBJ 787-8 has a range of 17,150 km and features the same fuel efficiency, quietness, and lower cabin altitude of the 787 airliner.

    And yet I’d still prefer the model based on the 77L, so I can do JFK-SYD non-stop all year round. That’s just me, though…

    I wonder if the Australian Government would be interested in replacing the two 737 BBJs with two 787 BBJs? They would hold more staff and journalists on overseas trips. Then again, we are supposing to be entering a period of austerity.

    Geoff – I wouldn’t be surprised if this was being taken into consideration, however as the current VIP lease expires next year, I somehow doubt that this will be feasible. It may be more likely that additional A330 airframes are acquired, which would be larger and long range, and common to the existing RAAF MRTT (and Qantas) fleets. Will be interesting to hear what the replacements will be!

    Another possible option would be to extend the lease… does anybody know whether this is being considered or is likely?

    Have there been any official releases or announcements re. the VIP fleet post-2015?
